Saint Philip of Jesus, Mexican Protomartyr, (1572-1597)  

 After a stormy youth in Mexico and Manila, he surrendered himself to the grace of God. He became a Franciscan brother in the Philippines and received orders to return to Mexico; on the way, his ship ran aground in Japan, where he was martyred by crucifixion. Saint Philip of Jesus is one of the Twenty-six Martyrs of Japan.
