Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus entered the Carmel of Lisieux with an ardent desire of raising herself in a short space of time to the summit of perfection.
She first sought in the words and example of the Saints, means of attaining her end, but found peace, and her aspirations fully satisfied, only in meditating on the simplicity of the life of Jesus, and in fathoming the sense of those divine words: “THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS FOR LITTLE CHILDREN AND FOR SUCH AS ARE LIKE UNTO THEM.” (Cf.
